OUR TECHNIQUES

At Agarwal Carpets, we take pride in mastering a diverse range of traditional and modern carpet weaving techniques. Each method is carefully chosen to create carpets that embody the perfect balance of beauty, durability, and craftsmanship.

HANDTUFTED

The handtufted technique is a modern method that allows for the creation of detailed patterns and varying textures.

A tufting gun is used to insert yarn into a stretched canvas following a pre-drawn design. This process is highly flexible, allowing us to create custom carpets.

After tufting, the carpet is trimmed to even out the surface, backed with latex for stability, and then undergoes a rigorous quality check.

Handtufted carpets are known for their plush texture and versatility, making them a popular choice for both residential and commercial spaces in Australia.

HANDKNOTTED

Handknotting is a time-honored technique that produces some of the most durable and detailed carpets available in Australia.

Each carpet is made by tying individual knots onto warp threads, a painstaking process that can take months or even years to complete depending on the complexity of the design.

This method results in carpets with intricate patterns and exceptional durability.

Our handknotted carpets are masterpieces that showcase the skill and dedication of our artisans, offering timeless elegance and resilience that will last for generations.

HANDLOOM

The handloom technique combines the simplicity of traditional weaving with the ability to create unique, customizable patterns. In this method, the warp threads are stretched on a loom, and the weft threads are interlaced to form the design.

The weaver uses a shuttle to pass the weft threads through the warp, creating a dense and durable fabric.

Handloom carpets are known for their texture and character, with each piece reflecting the personal touch of the artist.

This method allows for a wide range of designs, from simple and subtle to bold and intricate.

PITLOOM

Pitloom weaving is a traditional technique that involves weaving carpets on a loom placed in a pit, which allows for better control over thread tension.

This results in carpets with a tight, uniform weave and a smooth finish.

The pitloom technique is ideal for creating strong, durable carpets with intricate patterns. Each carpet is woven with precision, ensuring that the final product is both beautiful and long-lasting.

The depth of the pit allows the weaver to work more efficiently, producing carpets that combine tradition with durability.

PUNJA

Punja weaving is a manual technique often used for creating flatweave carpets and rugs. The process involves the use of a hand-held tool called a Punja to beat down the weft threads tightly into the warp.

This method produces strong, flatweave carpets that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional.

The bold patterns and rustic charm of Punja-woven carpets make them a perfect choice for adding a touch of tradition and character to any space.

Each Punja carpet is a testament to the artisan’s skill and attention to detail, offering a product that is as durable as it is beautiful.
